She was a designer, singer and performer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. She was the first Mexican American artist that was modern and traditional. She united both worlds and helped bring Tejano music to the forefront. Similar to how many people mourn a star who has died far too early, her passing was premature and destroyed a growing career. As a result fans are enthused over the years to dig in and work harder to make sure her accomplishments will not be forgotten. Selena's shooting death sparked emotion in Latino society that could be similar to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely popular singer among Latinos in North America. But her music was a hit with both the young and old. A flamboyant sexy stage performer sometimes hailed as Selena the Latina Madonna Selena was nonetheless thought of as a role model on stage she was a family-oriented involved in anti-drug initiatives and AIDS awareness programs.
